Title Does Dycal Stimulate Secondary Dentin Formation More Efficiently When Compared To Ultrablend Plus When Treating A Direct Pulp Exposure
Clinical Question In an adult patient requiring a direct pulp capping, will Ultrablend Plus be more effective in releasing calcium hydroxide to induce secondary dentin when compared to Dycal?
Clinical Bottom Line There is no significant difference in developing secondary dentin when using Dycal or Ultrablend Plus.

Key resultsIn this in vivo study, direct capped teeth were treated with Dycal and Ultrablend separately, and then extracted after 15 days were assayed for odontoblastic activity. Secondary dentin formation was not significantly different when using Dycal or Ultrablend (p=0.794)

The Evidence
These 24 random vital teeth with no caries were randomly divided into four groups and were treated with four different agents individually. Teeth were extracted after 15 days. It was not a double-blind study or any competing interests involved.
Applicability According to this study, there was no statistical significant difference between the four materials in acquiring odontoblastic activity. However, the resin-based composites may not be recommended due to the temperature rise during polymerization. It may cause microleakage, sensitization, and allergic reactions on some patients.
