Title |
Survival Rate For Single Tooth CAD/CAM Restorations as Compared to Conventional Dental Restorations is Inconclusive |
Clinical Question |
In a healthy adult in need of a single-tooth restoration, will a CAD/CAM restoration have a better survival rate compared to a conventional restoration? |
Clinical Bottom Line |
For patients in need of a single tooth restoration, there is a lack evidence that directly compares CAD/CAM restorations to conventional dental restorations. |

Comments on
The Evidence |
In the Wittneben review article, none of the studies included in the review were randomized controlled trials, but each article was reviewed for validity. A detailed search was included for all trials. 1,957 restorations were compiled and a meta- analysis was done. While this study analyzed the survival rate of CAD/CAM restorations, there was no comparison to conventional dental restorations. |
Applicability |
The subjects and treatment procedures could easily be applied to any general practice setting. The initial cost of CAD/CAM systems can be a deterrent for some dentists. |
