Key resultsIn the treatment primary molars with MTA, the success rate was 94.1% with crown discoloration being the common complaint. In primary molars treated with Calcium Hydroxide, internal root resorption was the most common cause of failure.

Key resultsA clinical common odds ratio of 6.48 with a confidence interval of 1.75-24 comparing MTA successes to CH; subsequently, radiographic common odds ratio yielded 10.47 with a confidence interval of 3.35-32.76 revealing the superiority of MTA as compared to CH.

The Evidence
In the study by Liu of 17 children in a randomized controlled trial, 17 contralateral molars were evaluated after treatment of MTA and CH. The common cause of failures was internal root resorption when treated with CH while crown discoloration was noted with MTA. In the meta-analysis conducted by Ng, MTA was compared to CH in 531 molars, yielding superior results in both clinical and radiographic findings. There were nine randomized controlled trials and seven controlled trials in the meta-analysis study.
Applicability Mineral Trioxide Aggregate can be used with as the superior choice of treatment in pulpotomized primary molars.
