Title |
Similar Longevity Of Gold Inlays Compared To CAD/CAM Ceramic Inlays |
Clinical Question |
Which material provides the best longevity in patients requiring a MOD inlay dental restoration: gold or CAD/CAM ceramic? |
Clinical Bottom Line |
All the inlays had similar failure free years. Laboratory-fabricated ceramic inlays had the highest costs and, thus, were less cost-effective than chair-side CAD/CAM ceramic and gold inlay. (See Comments on the CAT below) |

Comments on
The Evidence |
This was a meta-analysis. The systematic literature search did not find any trial that compared the longevity of laboratory-fabricated ceramic, chair-side CAD/CAM ceramic, and gold inlays. The 10 studies that met the minimum criteria were case series |
Applicability |
The evidence is directly applicable to a typical patient in any dental practice requiring a MOD inlay dental restoration. |

by Robert Simon, Vy Pham, Brenda Rodriguez (San Antonio, TX) on 01/07/2013 A Pubmed search was performed on longevity of CAD/CAM ceramic inlay versus gold inlay. A more recent study was found: PMID: 18426165. The results showed some improvement in CAD/CAM ceramic inlays but had not surpassed that of gold inlays. | |
